At Urban Iki, it’s all about connection – with each other, the world around us, and the families we design our products for. We’re a small and close-knit team based in the east of the Netherlands, in Nijverdal. Here, designers, dreamers, thinkers and doers work together with one mission: to help young families enjoy the Iki feeling every single day. That feeling isn’t just about cycling – it’s about being together, cherishing life’s little moments, and creating memories that last a lifetime. We’re parents ourselves, bike lovers and outdoor people. We know how valuable those shared moments are – and we’re here to help make more of them.

What does Urban Iki mean?

The name Urban Iki perfectly reflects who we are. ‘Urban’ stands for modern Dutch design – smart, practical and stylish. ‘Iki’ is a Japanese word that’s hard to translate. It’s all about beauty in simplicity. It’s finding joy in the little things, without calling too much attention to itself. Iki is understated, refined and quietly elegant. You see it, you feel it, and you just know – “ah, that’s Iki.” Not loud or flashy, but subtle, honest and thoughtful.

Our products are not just safe and practical – they’re also timeless and stylish. We combine the refinement of Japan with the practical mindset of the Netherlands, creating products that are thoughtful, simple, and perfect for everyday family life. It’s the best of East and West – our golden combination.

Dutch Design with Japanese roots

Urban Iki was born from the dream of the Japanese Kimura family. With their company OGK, the leading bike seat brand in Japan for over 80 years, they wanted to start a new chapter beyond Japan. In the Netherlands, they found the perfect creative partners: designers known for their clever, practical take on design, who truly understood and embraced the Iki feeling. That mix of refined simplicity and thoughtful design became the heart of Urban Iki.

From Nijverdal to the world

With a small and passionate team deeply rooted in the cycling industry, our journey started at the drawing board in 2015. Today, Urban Iki is available in 38 countries, we’ve won almost 10 (!) international design awards, and we’re just as driven as ever to inspire families around the world. We believe in what we do, and you can feel it in our products. Because when you do what truly inspires you, it’s no longer work – it’s your ikigai.
