Urban Iki & corporate social responsibility
In our corporate culture, people, earth and product come together perfectly through corporate social responsibility. Read more about Urban Iki's approach.
What is corporate social responsibility?
Social entrepreneurship for Urban Iki is inspired by the Japanese ‘Kaizen’ idea. The Japanese word 改 (‘kai’) means ‘to change’ and 善 (‘zen’) means ‘good’. It teaches people to see and exclude waste in a process. For us, this is the starting point for the continuous improvement of our business processes. People, earth and product therefore come together perfectly in our corporate culture. We believe that this thought will benefit future generations in the long run. Our sustainability policy
By doing business sustainably, we take into account the living environment of our little ones and future generations in everything we do. We look forward to the future of our earth, and back to that little one in his safe bicycle seat. Both are important. This means: using as few raw materials as possible and returning as much as possible to the earth. For this, we keep the Sustainable Development Goals in mind, among other things.
The seventeen ‘Sustainable Development Goals’ are there to make the world a better place in 2030. These goals were set by the United Nations in its proposal for a new global agenda. More and more companies are committed to a number of SDGs that suit them. It is not about big steps, but rather the small steps. Because even the small steps make a difference. Below, we refer to a number of SDGs that are important to us.
Inclusion in the workplace
Everyone who shares our core values is welcome to work at Urban Iki (SDG 8 – Fair Work and Economic Growth). Within our team, we live three important core values. Respect, caring for each other and caring for the environment in which you live. This is, just like in Japanese culture, the basis from which we act at Urban Iki. Pleasure; for us, this is the result of a great passion for our profession to let young families experience the Iki feeling. The fantastic bonus is that this allows us to provide a workplace where everyone always has a smile because working at Urban Iki is their Ikigai. And lastly inspiration, the strength you get from doing what you like together is the strong foundation that we want to radiate and offer each other. In our case, one plus one equals at least three!
Cooperation with sheltered workshops, local employment for people with a distance to the labor market
We see it as our responsibility to take good care of the people around us. That is why Urban Iki wants to improve local employment. We offer jobs within our team for people with a distance to the labour market. We also work together with a sheltered workshop in our area. They help us assemble sub-parts.
Working in a CO2 and energy-neutral building
During our production process, we return as much energy as possible to the earth (SDG 3 – Good health and well-being). That is why we work in a CO2 and energy-neutral building. Our production location is energy-neutral because of our solar panels. Thanks to the solar panels in our building, we can provide ourselves with energy. We also use it to control the heat pumps. In this way, we do not use gas but give electricity back instead. By doing this, we want to reduce our CO2 emissions during the production process. On sunny days this amount of solar energy is a lot and on dark days less. The overall balance is positive. A result we are very proud of!
Developing products for the long term
Our products are produced in the best possible way for both earth and child (SDG 12 – Responsible consumption and production). We are constantly moving forward. Because future generations are always in our thoughts, we do business sustainably. We therefore always optimize our products with an eye to the future. Our bicycle seats can last a long time, which ensures a pleasant user experience and less waste. We also want to produce with sustainable materials.
Use of bioplastic
The Urban Iki bio bicycle seats consist of partial bioplastic, produced from rice husk. In an ideal world, of course, we only use sustainable materials. This is the first big step for us towards a sustainable product line. We have given these new organic child seats the familiar Urban Iki comfort for your little one and also meet extensive safety requirements.
Stimulating the use of bicycles
Urban Iki encourages the use of the bicycle as a means of transport. Cycling goes hand in hand with reducing CO2 emissions (SDG – Sustainable Cities and Communities). In addition, our products make it easier for young families to cycle more often. Together, you go on the road in style and safety, with a bicycle seat that suits you exactly. In this way, we continue to invest together in a sustainable future.
