Which child bike seat for what age?
Discovering the world by bike with your child is an unforgettable experience. Almost nothing beats the feeling of the wind whooshing through your hair, with a changing scenery every few minutes. Which bicycle seat is best for your baby or child, very much depends on its age. Is your child just taking its first steps or already a self-confident adventurer? This article tells you from what age your baby can be carried in a bicycle seat, and what options you have when they get bigger.
From what age can I carry my baby in a bike seat?
You can take your baby in a bike seat from the moment they can independently sit straight up for some time. This moment usually comes when they’re about 9 months old. From that time on, you can take them both in a front seat or a rear seat. Of course, both choices have their pros and cons: a front seat allows you to keep a close eye on your child and wrap your arms around them; a rear seat shields them from wind and offers your child more room to grow. In terms of safety there’s no difference, so just choose the seat that suits you best!
Up to what age can I take my child in the front bike seat?
Urban Iki front seats are suitable for children up to about 3 years old. At this age, most toddlers have grown out of it. Instead of age, you can also look at your child’s weight. For a ride in an Urban Iki front seat, this may not exceed 15 kilos. When your child gets heavier, it’s time to switch to a rear seat. These seats can carry more weight and have more adjustment options. This means your little explorer can sit back for a few more years and enjoy the beautiful adventures!
Up to what age can I take my child in a rear bike seat?
When your adventurer is about 6 years old, it has normally grown out of the rear bicycle seat. They usually weigh about 22 kilos or more at that time, and will cycle more and more on their own bikes. A new milestone that brings new experiences!
What bike seat for bigger children?
Although children from the age of 5 often cycle by themselves, they still like to hop on the back of your bike every now and then. For those moments, we have created the Urban Iki Junior. This great looking rear bike seat for older children has a sturdy cowboy saddle with safe footrests, and is suitable for children up to 10 years (or 35 kilos). It is also foldable for a stylish, low-profile look.
Have a safe trip!
Whether you go for a ride with your baby, toddler or school-goer, safety is always the most important thing. That is why all Urban Iki bicycle seats meet the European quality standard EN14344 and strict Japanese safety regulations. All Urban Iki bicycle seats up to 6 years have also been tested by the German safety institute TÜV. This means you can depend on the safety of your child’s bike seat and have all the time to enjoy your trip!
